April 2nd, 2020

Dear members of the Garezers community,

We are now in week 3 of our work and would like to share the following update as it relates to Garezers and our programs:

– All program participant families from the 2019 season AND those who have already registered for the 2020 season have been emailed an important letter from the program directors which can also be accessed by this link.
-Registration for all summer programs is continuing at the website CampDoc. In the event of a program(s) being cancelled, program deposits will be refunded.
-Please remember that based on the current State of Michigan executive order guidelines, Garezers main office will be operating under limited hours. Please continue to use garezers@garezers.org to contact us.
-Please remember that the State of Michigan executive order also limits travel and prohibits in-person activities that are non-essential. All guests are required to adhere to Governor Whitmer’s executive order when considering visiting Garezers property and must notify Garezers administration if there is a critical need to be on the property.
-The Paver project and fundraiser continues as outlined on our website and the Board will evaluate, at the appropriate time, the possibility of its dedication to the public this summer.

As we continue to be challenged to meet the demands of everyday life, let us not forget to reach out to one another with support, empathy and kindness. Please continue to check frequently, as there may be additional postings between the weekly updates.

Stay safe and healthy!

Dear members of the Garezers community,

On Saturday, March 21, 2020, the COVID-19 task force reported to the Garezers Board of Directors on our work and current priorities. We cannot emphasize enough the need to check the COVID-19 portal on www.garezers.org as your source for the most current and accurate information. If a decision has been made that affects the Garezers community it will be posted here. The following IS true at this time:

-The Annual Shareholder meeting, scheduled for Saturday, May 2, has been rescheduled to Saturday, June 6, 2020.
-Per Michigan Governor Whitmer’s executive order, as of Tuesday March 24, all non-essential businesses in Michigan are required to close and limit in-office employees to only those necessary to conduct minimum basic operations. Based on those guidelines, Garezers main office will be operating under limited hours. Please be patient and continue to use garezers@garezers.org to contact us.
-As all are aware, the Governor’s executive order also limits travel and prohibits in-person activities that are not essential. We ask at this time that guests please adhere to Governor Whitmer’s executive order when considering visiting Garezers property and notify Garezers administration if there is a need to be on the property.
-Due to the up front financial investment of G55 and the potential impact of COVID-19 on attendance and revenue the Board has voted to postpone the celebration until the summer of 2021.The Board and the entire Garezers community are extremely grateful to the entire G55 Team for the countless hours and hard work in planning this celebration and that their dedication is so very much appreciated. Thank you Kirstaps Putelis, Janis Kaulins, Ieva Putnina, Erika Inka, Lara Billington, Liga Ejups, Dina Kancs, Chuck Bowen, Mara Spalvins, Zemene Kins, Allen D’aoust, Sandra Kronite-Sipols, un Franz Bauer!!!
-The Paver project and fundraiser continues as outlined on our website and the Board will evaluate, at the appropriate time, the possibility of its dedication to the public this summer.

The summer programs have NOT been cancelled at this time and we continue to:

-Benchmark the details of our health guidelines and policies in light of COVID-19 and use CDC guidelines to ensure we are prepared and able to address the health and safety needs of our program participants and staff.
-Participate in American Camp Association (ACA) webinars to be informed of COVID-19 implications on summer day and residential programming

As we continue to be challenged to meet the demands of everyday life, let us not forget to reach out to one another with support, empathy and kindness. Stay safe and healthy!

Dear members of the Garezers community,

Like all of you, we have been closely following the reports on COVID-19 and how the disease will impact our families, ourselves, and our broader communities, including Garezers. The situation is unprecedented, and continues to evolve at a breakneck pace. There are so many questions, and no one has all the answers. This letter is to inform you of the steps we have taken at Garezers as we continue to prepare for our summer season, while at the same time taking into consideration the progression of COVID-19.

Garezers has established a COVID-19 task force which will be reviewing developments daily. This dedicated team began its work on the morning of March 14, 2020, and will continue to meet regularly for the foreseeable future. The decision and commitment to form this team was reinforced by the recently issued general guidelines by the American Camp Association. These guidelines are invaluable in helping address our preparedness with this new normal in our lives.

Every camp and retreat center in America, including Garezers, has challenges which we continually strive to address as we plan our programs. Please be assured that Garezers’ priorities have not changed. The health and well-being of all our program participants, staff and guests is our highest priority. To that end, this team will continue to utilize every available resource as we prioritize our tasks in light of COVID-19.

In the course of our first meeting we discussed the initial tasks to be addressed immediately, to minimize the risk to all of our community, participants, staff and guests and those include, but are not limited to the following:
-Evaluate and revise as necessary our current health guidelines in light of COVID-19.
-Evaluate our guest and visitor policies.
-Evaluate and revise as necessary our cleaning protocols, including daily sanitization procedures of maintenance staff and personal hygiene requirements.

We would also like to remind everyone that our community lives across the country and as a result of the COVID-19 protocols, emergency declarations differ from state to state and are constantly evolving, in some cities, hour by hour. As the weeks proceed, we will be aligning our decisions with the regulations established by the federal government, CDC, the State of Michigan, St.Joseph County Health Department and other local authorities, and the American Camp Association.

We will continue to share information on the Garezers website, www.garezers.org, and by other means as deemed to be necessary. The greatest asset of Garezers is our close-knit community. Please take care of yourselves, your loved ones and your neighbors in the days ahead.
